Job title: Operations Director

We are seeking an experienced, strategic, and detail-oriented Operations Director to lead and manage the operational delivery of our B2B exhibitions and trade shows. This role is responsible for ensuring the seamless planning, execution, and post-event analysis of all operational aspects across multiple events, both domestic and international. 

The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of event logistics, supplier and venue management, and the ability to balance high-level strategic thinking with day-to-day execution. 

Reports To: Managing Director  
Location: Guildford/Hybrid 
Salary: OTE £70,000 p/a

Key Responsibilities: Key Responsibilities: 

Strategic & Operational Leadership 

  • Define and implement operational strategies for the efficient delivery of exhibitions and trade shows. 
  • Lead and manage the Operations Team, including hiring, training, and performance development. 
  • Work closely with Sales, Marketing, and Content teams to ensure operational alignment across departments. 
  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement in operational processes and customer experience. 

Event Planning & Execution 

  • Oversee the full operational lifecycle of events from venue selection and contract negotiation to on-site delivery and post-event reporting. 
  • Manage event budgets, timelines, schedules, health and safety compliance, and risk assessments. 
  • Lead the development of event floorplans in collaboration with Sales and Marketing teams. 
  • Ensure exhibitor and contractor manuals are accurate, updated, and distributed on time. 
  • Coordinate with international stakeholders, including local partners and logistics providers for overseas events. 

Supplier & Stakeholder Management 

  • Source, negotiate with, and manage relationships with venues, contractors, logistics providers, AV suppliers, security, and other third-party vendors. 
  • Ensure SLAs are met and deliverables are achieved within budget and to agreed timelines. 
  • Manage contracts and procurement processes for key operational suppliers. 

Compliance, Health & Safety 

  • Ensure all events meet legal, health and safety, insurance, and licensing requirements. 
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies and ensure all documentation and procedures are compliant. 
  • Implement and enforce sustainability policies in line with company ESG goals. 

Budgeting & Cost Control 

  • Create and manage detailed event budgets, ensuring cost-efficiency and value for money. 
  • Monitor and report on operational expenditures and identify opportunities for cost savings. 

Technology & Systems 

  • Evaluate and implement event technology solutions such as floor plan design tools, registration systems, onsite management tools, and event apps. 
  • Streamline internal operations using digital tools to increase efficiency. 

Requirements: 

Experience: 

  • Minimum of 7–10 years in event operations, with at least 3 years in a senior/leadership role within B2B exhibitions or trade shows. 
  • Proven experience delivering large-scale exhibitions (domestic and international). 
  • Experience managing teams and working in cross-functional environments. 

Skills: 

  • Strong leadership and team management skills. 
  • Excellent organizational and project management capabilities. 
  • Negotiation and budget management skills. 
  • Problem-solving mindset and ability to remain calm under pressure. 
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management. 
  • Proficiency with event tech platforms (e.g., ExpoFP, Ungerboeck, Swapcard, or similar). 

Education: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Event Management, Business, Operations, or related field (or equivalent experience). 
  • Additional certifications in health & safety, project management, or event operations are a plus.

Job title: Event Manager

We have a very exciting opportunity for an Event Manager to join the award-winning team at Raccoon Media Group. Reporting directly to the MD, this is a commercial-lead opportunity that is perfect for a Sales Manager looking to take the next step up or an experienced Event Manager

Location: Guildford, UK
Hours: Full time (USA Hours Required 10-6pm / 11-7pm)
Salary: OTE £65,000 p/a

Key responsibilities include:

  • Define the growth plan for the event, strengthening sales and services and client excellence – including identification of key commercial objectives, strategy, tactics, potential risks, industry opportunities and measurable KPIs
  • Drive the strategy and take lead responsibility for the retention and growth of client account(s)to reach quarterly and annual revenue and margin targets
  • Uphold accurate and regular tracking, trend identification and trimming of department model to drive greater efficiencies, smarter working practices and effective resource allocation where required
  • Produce and monitor financial forecasting, billing and processes, including firm control of department spend and reconciliation
  • Ensure adherence to all company payment procedures
  • Review pricing policies and suggest ideas that drive higher revenue sales and relationships
  • Take the lead role in developing our value-proposition for the event. Suggest new ideas and technical innovations that improve the proposition
  • Create a new suite of sales tools to help sell the proposition
  • Work with marketing team to ensure that marketing spend is within budget
  • Liaise with marketing team to develop the visitor proposition and increase visitor traffic
  • Work with our Head of Content to ensure a strong content proposition is delivered
  • Work with Operations Director to ensure operational expenditure is in line with budget
  • Attend exhibitions to help generate revenue, promote the site and conduct interviews
  • Proactively look for new/smarter ways to improve department processes and procedures to deliver a faster, more efficient service to clients
  • Ensure all event documents and paperwork are accurate and in place
  • Show a driven, revenue-first and hands-on management style that guides best practice, raises performance and delivers against the Raccoon Media Group company values
  • Communicate regularly with the wider team keep them updated on strategic and tactical department news, developments and results (weekly meetings)
  • Work with other Event Directors to ensure cross department sharing of leads and collaborative working
  • Consistently demonstrate tact, diplomacy, maturity and professionalism in all aspects of your role
  • Be accountable for your business unit, complying with all internal processes to ensure quality standards and service propositions are being met

Hours: Full time, working USA hours (10 – 6pm / 11-7pm)

Salary: OTE £40,000 p/a

  • Achieving and exceeding KPIs and sales targets
  • Using the CRM system effectively for sales, pipeline and activity level
  • Be comfortable with phone selling
  • Ensure adherence to all company payment procedure
  • Attend competitor exhibitions to help generate revenue
  • Ensure all event documents and paperwork are accurate and in place
  • Show a driven, revenue-first style that guides best practice, raises performance, and delivers against the Raccoon Media Group company values
  • Work with Event Director and sales teams on other shows to ensure cross department sharing of leads and collaborative working
